FSU is changing how Florida Prepaid payments are applied to student accounts beginning Summer 2026. This page explains what's changing, when it happens, and what it means for you.
This change is automatic. You do not need to take any action for it to take effect.
What Is Changing
In the past, FSU waited to receive a payment from Florida Prepaid before applying it to your student account. Beginning Summer 2026, FSU will invoice Florida Prepaid directly before the start of each term. As a result, your Prepaid payment will be applied to your account approximately four weeks before the term begins, before financial aid even disburses.
This means your account will reflect your Prepaid coverage early in the billing cycle, giving you a clearer picture of what is owed (if anything) well before the payment deadline.
What to Expect This Summer
Here is how the process will unfold for Summer 2026:
- Now: Summer 2026 tuition and fees are calculated and visible on your student account. Your Florida Prepaid payment has not posted yet. This is expected and normal.
- Late April / Early May: FSU invoices Florida Prepaid directly. Payment is received and posted to your student account approximately four weeks before the term begins.
- Financial Aid Disbursement: Once financial aid disburses, it covers any remaining balance after your Prepaid payment. If your aid exceeds your balance, a refund is generated as normal.
- Start of Term: Your account enters the term with Prepaid already applied with no placeholder and no waiting.
Are you seeing a balance but no Prepaid payment? If Summer 2026 charges are showing on your account but your Florida Prepaid hasn't posted yet, there is nothing wrong. The Prepaid posting happens in late April or early May. No action is needed — check back then.
Frequently Asked Questions
Schedule Changes & Drop/Add
What happens if I drop classes during the drop/add period?
If you drop classes during drop/add and a credit is generated on your account, Student Finance will refund that credit to you as it normally does. Then you have a choice to make: you can either keep the refund or return the refund to Florida Prepaid to request that they restore your credit hours.
What happens if I add classes during the drop/add period?
If you add classes during drop/add and now owe more than your Prepaid plan originally covered, Student Finance will automatically invoice Prepaid again on your behalf in the second week of the semester. If you add classes after the drop/add period, you will need to pay out of pocket and request reimbursement from Florida Prepaid, or ask Florida Prepaid to issue a direct payment to the university.
Returning Funds & Requesting More
My Prepaid covered more than I owed. Will I get a refund?
Maybe. FSU consolidates the sum total of all of your credit balances and refunds you the difference. This means that your refund may be the result of Florida Prepaid, but might also be Bright Futures, Pell Grants, Loans, etc. If your Florida Prepaid payment exceeds your charges for the term, the excess amount may be used to pay other charges (like housing, dining, books, etc.) and may be refunded to you through FSU's standard refund process. If you would prefer to return those funds to your Prepaid plan, see the credit restore process below.
How do I return money to my Florida Prepaid plan instead of taking a refund?
If you want to return funds to your Florida Prepaid plan, you can request a credit restore directly through Florida Prepaid:
- Log in at MyFloridaPrepaid.com and submit a payment in the amount you wish to return.
- From the Help Center, select Open Support Case and submit a request for a credit restore, noting the amount to be restored to your plan.
Credit restore requests must be submitted within 60 days of the original invoice payment. Contact Florida Prepaid at myfloridaprepaid.com/contact if you have questions about eligibility.
What if I need more Prepaid hours applied?
Questions about your plan's coverage, including adjusting authorized hours and requesting direct payments, are handled directly by Florida Prepaid. Contact them at myfloridaprepaid.com/contact to discuss your options.
Plan Management & Account Holds
Can I place my Florida Prepaid account on hold for a term?
Yes. Account holds are managed directly by Florida Prepaid. If you need to place your plan on hold, contact Florida Prepaid before the term begins. Because FSU now invoices Prepaid before the term starts, it is important to communicate any holds to Florida Prepaid as early as possible. Reach them at myfloridaprepaid.com/contact.
How do I adjust the number of hours billed to my Prepaid plan?
Hour adjustments to your Florida Prepaid plan are made through Florida Prepaid directly. FSU does not control the terms of your plan. Log in to your account at MyFloridaPrepaid.com or contact their support team to make changes.
I have a Florida Prepaid plan but it isn't showing on my MyFSU account. What should I do?
The only place you will see your Prepaid plan information before payment is received is on the MyFSU Portal. Navigate to the Finances tab and then click "Florida Prepaid" to review your plan and available hours. If you believe your Florida Prepaid plan should be on file with FSU, but it is not reflected on the portal, contact the Office of Student Finance.
General Questions
Do I need to do anything to make this change take effect?
No. This change is automatic for all students with a Florida Prepaid plan on file at FSU. You do not need to re-enroll, notify anyone, or submit any forms.
Will this change affect my financial aid or refund timing?
The timing of financial aid disbursement is not changing. What is changing is that your Florida Prepaid payment will post to your account before financial aid disburses, meaning your balance will already reflect your Prepaid coverage when aid arrives. Financial aid will then cover any remaining balance and generate your refund as it normally would.
Does this change apply to Fall and Spring terms too, or only Summer 2026?
This change begins in Summer 2026 but will be the standard practice for all future terms.
Who do I contact if I have questions about my Prepaid plan or benefits?
Florida Prepaid is your primary resource for all questions about your plan, including coverage, authorized hours, holds, credit restores, and account benefits. FSU cannot access or modify the terms of your plan. Contact Florida Prepaid at myfloridaprepaid.com/contact.
